Sixteen Tonnes Taken Away in One Visit, Loaded From the Road.

Grab Hire Guildford runs eight-wheel grab lorries and a mini grab for builders, landscapers and homeowners across Guildford, Godalming, Chobham and Bagshot. The team behind it has spent thirty years in the trade, so there is very little we have not dealt with.

We quote per load from a photo, arrive when we say we will, and our driver does all the loading. Soil, clay, hardcore, rubble and green waste all go to a licensed transfer station, and a waste transfer note follows by email. If you are searching for a grab lorry near you in west Surrey, our yard at Mayford is ten minutes from Guildford and a few minutes from Chobham.

  • 16tin a single grab load
  • 7.6mreach, over walls and fences

Work out your load

How Many Tonnes Is That? Work It Out in Ten Seconds.

Measure the pile, or the area you need to dig out or fill, and the calculator turns it into tonnes and tells you which lorry it needs. Then send the figures straight to us on WhatsApp and we will price it.

  • Soil weighs about 1.3 tonnes a cubic metre loose, clay nearer 1.8, so the material matters.
  • The eight-wheeler carries sixteen tonnes; the mini grab up to nine.
  • A guide to quantity only. The price comes from us, per load, with no extras.
7.8tonnes

About 6.0 cubic metres. That fits on the mini grab in one trip, or on an eight-wheeler with room to spare.

A rough guide to quantity only. Call us for an exact, no-obligation price.

Trench spoil is mostly clay, and clay is heavy. A single grab load takes what would fill two or three skips, and the driver loads it from the road while your groundworkers carry on.

Turf, topsoil and old patio slabs go in together. The arm reaches over a side gate or a fence, so the lorry stays on the road and nothing is barrowed through the house.

Good to know

Everything You Need to Know Before You Book.

How is grab hire priced?

Per load rather than per tonne. Send us a photo of the materials and let us know where the lorry can park, and we will quote the whole job over the phone. There is no council permit to pay for.

Do I need to be there when the lorry comes?

No. As long as the lorry can park within reach and we know where the materials are, our driver loads them and can send you a photo of the cleared area afterwards. Many of our domestic jobs are done while customers are at work.

What can go in a grab load?

Soil, clay, subsoil, hardcore, rubble, brick, block, concrete, tarmac, chalk, turf and green waste, and mixed builders' waste. Keep asbestos, plasterboard, fridges, tyres, batteries, paint, oil and gas bottles out of the load, or call us first.

How far can the arm reach?

About 7.6 metres from where the lorry parks, which clears a front garden, a side return or a site hoarding, and lifts over walls and fences up to around two metres. If the materials are further back we will let you know before we come out.

How quickly can you come?

Same day or next day where we can, with a time window so you know when to expect us. If a site cannot wait, our emergency service runs around the clock, including evenings and weekends.

What happens to the waste?

Every load goes to a licensed transfer station where it is screened and recycled, and a waste transfer note comes through by email. We are an Environment Agency registered upper-tier waste carrier.
